Joseph Desmond Tusan was born on March 13, 1986, in Fort Worth, Texas to Kevin and Donna Tusan.
Coincidentally, Joseph was born on the 13th day of the month at 13:13 PM, and across from Room 313 at
All Saints Hospital. He was a great big brother to his younger brother, Terrence. Joseph had a magnetic
personality, a 100 watt smile and a caring nature that resulted in both children and the elderly gravitating
towards him.
As a young child growing up in Arlington, Texas, Joseph developed a love of sports that was nurtured by
his father. He was a good student and a multi-sport athlete. Joseph excelled in football, basketball and
track; however, living in Texas where football is king, Joseph developed a strong passion for playing
football. After graduating from Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, he received a football
scholarship to attend East Central University (ECU) in Ada, Oklahoma. He was looking forward to being
a part of the ECU football family and fulfilling his dream of playing college football. Sadly, he was only a
student at ECU for 5 weeks before he was killed on September 19, 2004, in a racial hate crime in Ada.
